Eligibility for IBPS Exam

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection conducts exams for various different posts. There is different eligibility for each exam. There are different exam syllabus patterns and stages.   • To apply for the IBPS exam, it is necessary to obtain a graduate degree from any recognized college or university.

1. IBPS Probationary Officer

If you want to get a job in the post of PO in the bank, then the IBPS PO exam is given for that which is in online mode. This exam is conducted in 3 phases. After qualifying all three stages of the preliminary examination, main examination, and interview, the candidate is made to join. The age limit for IBPS PO is 20 years to 30 years.

Preliminary Examination

In the preliminary examination, questions are asked from English, Reasoning, and Quantitative Aptitude subjects. There are all objective questions in this exam.

It is a question paper for 100 marks. In which there are 100 questions. You get 1 hour to complete this exam. There is also a negative marking question in it. If you pass this exam, then only you qualify for the second phase.

Mains exam

The second stage in the IBPS PO exam is the main exam. Questions related to English, Reasoning, Computer Aptitude, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, Essay in English, and Letter writing come. The time duration for this exam is 3:30 hours.

There are approximately 175 questions in it. Whose full score is 225? This exam is completed in 4 sessions. It is also given in online mode. There is a negative marking question in it.


After passing both stage exams of IBPS. PO, the candidate selected for the interview exam interview is an exam of 100 marks. In this, the personality, and behavior-related exam of the candidate is asked.

Also, General Knowledge and better knowledge about Banking are assessed. This interview is conducted in both English and Hindi. After passing this exam, the merit list comes out, and only after getting the merit number, joining for this post is done.

2. IBPS Clerk

IBPS Clerk exam is conducted in two phases, which are the preliminary exam and the main exam. This exam is also conducted online mode only. The age limit required to apply for this exam is around 20 years to 28 years.

Preliminary Exam

The preliminary exam is completed in 3 sessions. All the questions are objective in this. About 100 questions are asked in this exam and the marks of this exam paper are 100. There is also a negative marking question in it. In this exam, questions are asked from the subjects of English, Reasoning, and Numerical Ability.

Main Exam

for IBPS Clerk. For which the time is available for 160 minutes. In this exam, questions are asked about General Financial Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning, and Computer Aptitude subjects. There are negative marking questions in this exam also. After passing both these stages, one gets selected for the post of clerk in any bank.


This exam is given to Specialist Officers in Banks. Recruitment is done for posts under scale one at the junior level in the areas of Human Resources, Law, HR, IT, Agriculture Field Officer, Marketing Officer, etc. Minimum 20 years and maximum 30 years age limit is mandatory for this exam. This exam is conducted in three phases.

Preliminary Exam 

This exam has a time duration of 120 minutes in which 150 questions are asked. All questions carry approximately 125 marks. In this exam, questions are asked from Reasoning, General Awareness with special reference to Banking Industry and English Subject.

Main Exam

The main Exam is conducted for the posts of Law Officer, IT Officer, Agriculture Field Officer, Marketing Officer, etc. There are 60 questions, time is given for 45 minutes.


The exam is taken after completing both stages exams. In this exam, the knowledge of every candidate about the bank, their personality, etc. is assessed. After passing this exam is selected for all the posts coming under it.


This exam is conducted for Assistant and Officer grades in rural banks in rural areas. This exam is completed in two phases. In this exam, there is no interview for the assistant post. In this, the interview is taken only after clearing the mains exam for the post of officer.

Preliminary Exam

In this exam, only questions related to Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude come. About 40 questions are asked from both subjects. It takes 45 minutes. The question paper of this exam is 80 marks.

Main Examination

In the main examination, questions are asked from Reasoning, Hindi or English, Quantitative Aptitude, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge subjects. The question paper of this exam is of approximately 200 marks and 2 hours are given to solve this question paper.
